Sony has released a huge load of news at Gamescom, focusing heavily on their Vita system. During their press conference, Sony revealed trailers for four new games: Rain, Until Dawn, Puppeteer and Killzone: Mercenary (live-action), and also showed off a gameplay trailer for previously teased (at E3) Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified. A new Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation trailer was shown as well.
Sony also announced that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, the new Ratchet and Clank game, Full Frontal Assault, and PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale will take part in a Cross Buy program, where buying the PS3 version of a game gets you the Vita version for free. This is a great way for Sony to start promoting the cross play features of their games.
Additionally, four “new” (even though they had already been leaked) characters have been officially added to the PlayStation All Stars roster: Sackboy (Little Big Planet), “Emo” Dante (from the new Devil May Cry), Ratchet (Ratchet and Clank) and Spike (Ape Escape).
This was definitely a press conference jam-packed with info from Sony, sure to make up for any complaints they might have gotten at E3.
Clearly, Sony has not given up on their Vita console, which is still mostly struggling to find an audience. What it needs is more games, and it looks like they are finally figuring that one out.
Here are all the relatively short trailers from Sony’s Gamescom press conference:
Rain - from Sony Japan Studio. To me it seems really calming and appealing as more of an art form, and it reminds me of Ico meets Journey.
Until Dawn – from Supermassive Games and Sony. Obviously a jump out and scare you horror game for the PlayStation Move. Looks like it has some potential. If there is anything the move wand looks like it would be useful for, it’s a flash light.
Puppeteer – from Sony Japan Studio. Almost more disturbing than Until Dawn, it looks like Little Big Planet meets Tim Burton.
Killzone: Mercenary – From Sony for the Vita. Kicking off a teaser with live-action isn’t really that appealing to me, but it is Killzone.
Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified – exclusive for the Vita FTW! Note: This is definitely NOT Black Ops 2, this is back to Black Ops 1 and the Cold War era. And Nuketown.
Last but not least, Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation – The new gameplay trailer, showing off some Vita functions.
I will follow up with profile/judgement of the new All Stars and more news from these game releases.
