We’ve told you it was coming for a while, but now it’s finally official. This morning, Treyarch officially announced that the next Call of Duty game is Black Ops 2, which will release later this year.
If you’re worried that another Call of Duty sequel will be stale, this next bit of news may entice you. The game will be set in the near future. That means more futuristic weapons and vehicles than we’ve ever seen in a Call of Duty game before. The campaign will take place during the 21st century version of the Cold War.
The game will release on November 13th, 2012 for the XBox 360, PS3, and PC. There is no word yet on other platforms, including whether or not Black Ops 2 will also be the Call of Duty Vita game coming out later this year.
Below is a group of screenshots that show off the futuristic setting, as well as the box art. Are you happy about Black Ops 2 jumping to a futuristic setting? Let us know in the comments!

Looks good but would it be too similair to Halo???
The big difference between Halo and CoD is how the game feels. Plus Halo is not near future and the BO2 guns will still likely shoot bullets for balance sake.

I personally think that Black Ops 2 doens’t look like Halo. I looks more Crysis. Halo is 500 years from now. Crysis is only 10 to 20 years from now.

I am absolutly dissapointed in treyarch. I thought we were through this MW/futuristic crap. I want some good old cold war shooting. Just rifle’s and a few snipers, no flying chopper UAV bullshit. I want it to be about the skill, not about the equipment. It seems to me that this is just gonna be another MW experience, same idea, different story. Now, it better have zombies in it, or else I’m not gonna buy it, for sure.

has anyone that is knocking graphics thought about the fact that this is still a work in progress? Those screenshots are not final product. Give it some time. let it progress. I’m not very happy with treyarch either. but ill at last give them a chance to explain their idea and concept more in depth.

Umm if you have not known, Real warfare is won by the guys with the best equipment, cod is based off real warfare, u believe that skill matters, its how you play the game based on the odds stacked against you, AKA the equipment…..
HAHAHA you said COD Is based off real warfare! BULLSHIT! The game is very unrealistic. Shit, even Super Mario is more realistic and that is saying something. Minimal to no recoil on the guns? CHECK. No skill involved? CHECK. Players running around without caring for their life? CHECK. Respawns? CHECK. Soldiers movement is way too hyper and spastic? CHECK. Bullets travel faster than the speed of light? CHECK. Unrealistic, cheesy, nerdy, corny Quickscoping? CHECK. Get outta here kid.

As much as you have a point, there is such things as minimal to no recoil guns. For example the Type 95(known as the Type 97 in China)is pretty much an extremely low recoil, 3-round burst gun. That’s just a fact! Low or nearly no recoil guns exist in the real world. Also, I hope you’re exaggerating when you mean under the lines of “bullets traveling faster than the speed of light”. True, it is a video game, but there is no such thing as a bullet travling faster than the speed of light. If you want to know the Eienstein theory of relativity states than than if your velocity increases, your mass increases and that nothing can go faster than the speed of light. Now,recently his theory has been techincally proven wrong about last year. Again I know it is a video game, but the game doesn’t allow the bullets to travel faster than the speed of light.
Of course I was exaggerating with bullets going faster than the speed of light. What I was trying to say is that there is no such thing as leading your bullets in COD games. The bullets land exactly on the target the millisecond you fire it. That is not realistic. There was no need to give me a lecture on a topic I already know. I am studying astronomy and physics at college.
I really like the direction this seems to be taking. Judging by the various equipment I’d say this is set in the 2020/30ish. I really think that’s a good idea, not too far, and not too behind.
It says at the bottom of the video at the start, it is set around 2025, pay more attention!!!!

Yes, it is heading toward the Halo futursitic idea, but the graphics in the screenshots look more like Crysis 2. Also, play Crysis 2 and then tell me how similar the graphics and the gameplay plan of Black Ops 2 is similar.

Its not fake guys, If you zoom in to some off them you see bits off the pictures on the official cod website (If you look at the gun on the tank its the gun on the picture) (and the picture with the man with the gun if you look in the right topish corner its the picture off the plane), even if Bo2 is set in the future doesnt mean the rest off the cod games will be. I’m looking forward to this, I dont really like the cold war era :L

I’m not sure about BlOps 2 being the same as Halo, just because they’re set in the future. Unless there’s no aiming, more health, Halo game types, and actually *is* set as far in the future as Halo, it’s *not* Halo.

If it doesn’t have Zombies, I am not going to buy it. MW3 Survival was all the proof I need that there is NO substitute for Zombies gameplay. I ripped through MW3 in less than a week, 100% achieves, then played Survival mode for about a week before I gave the game to a friend for free.

i thought they were releasing call of duty black ops II not call of duty halo ops… seriously this is fucked, they have gone too far forward, why couldn’t we have something simple like the war in afghanistan, a chance to kill saddam then finish it off 12yrs of drinking coffee and getting drunk with osama before climbing in his window and popping him one in the back of the head
the zombies better stay zombies and not futuristic robots. COD better keep bullets and regular guns. The New killstreaks i wont mind.

i enjoyed the cold war setting but this, if it is true looks fucking awesome, and NO IT IS NOT HALO!!!!!!!!! Halo is set on another planet shooting aliens this is clearly earth. i think this is going to be a let down..everyone likes the cold war era…the futuristic stuff is already being done by the ppl at bunngi and Halo..That big robot looking thing…i hope thats not in the game…i wont play it if it has enormous hard to kill killstreaks..fuck that…if it dont got zombies consider me a non believer and a non buyer of the next installment…i just purchased cod 4 so maybe i will stick to that and black ops 1

It looks like it’ll wind up being just like Battlefield 2142. I’ve always been drawn to CoD games for the historical significance of the battles they depict. I would much rather have another classic WWII CoD game than a futuristic one.

I like how alot of you compared it to halo and yet not one of the images in the trailer I watched even reminded me of halo, it’s not about some 50 or 100 year futuristic leap ahead trying to take on some alien race trying to kill us. Tell mommy and daddy to take the safe search off your computer and watch the trailer, and the words that he is speaking ARE english, sorry if it’s too complicated for you to comprehend. The game looks fantastic, and I for one have more experience gaming than most of you replying have been alive

you retards the “Black Ops” isn’t some cold war shit, its a millitary squad the highest in the millitary, the elites it could be set in the past or the future,
the call of duty franchise has already been in the past (WAW/COD1+2+3) and the present (COD4+MW2+MW3) Now it has to go to the future thats the only place left, unless you have another dimension to go to, they tried to keep it on earth also instead of placing it on the moon (i have NO fucking clue how that would work.)

Oh let the whining and hating begin. Is that the unmistakable pitter patterings of the BooHoo Baby squad marching on Treyarch, determined to put an end to change, creativity and anything new and exciting? Yes, yes it is. It is afterall, unmistakable. You can hear the boohoo babies crying and whining, incessantly and futilely, into the uncaring night sky. So sad. So pathetic. Poor poor boohoo babies.
Being an ass aside, I love the new direction Black Ops is taking. Should be exciting, with plenty of opportunity for awesome new weapons, perks, killstreak rewards and story possibilities that we would not have the chance to experience and enjoy otherwise! The single player campaign should be a breath of fresh air with the slightly futuristic setting and the story certainly sounds intriguing. I cant wait to have endless hours of fun and bloody mayhem with Black Ops 2 multiplayer, which is sure to be completely awesome with all those new weapons, gadgets and environments we’re sure to see!
In fact, I’m gonna go completely out on a limb and piss off the BooHoo Baby army by saying I would actually flip my sh*t, in a very GOOD way, to see the Call of Duty engine and gameplay in a COMPLETELY futuristic, spaceage setting, hopefully sometime soon! I can’t imagine that being anything other than mindblowingly awesome. Even if it is different than what we’re used to with the franchise. Who says there is no room to expand and try new things? Let’s see, CoD 4 takes place in 2011, Modern Warfare 2 takes place in the year of 2016 and Modern Warfare 3 and 2016-2017. By the looks of it, all three games are in the future dumb ass cunt. I think it is gonna be a fun game in ways by the fact its a change in the entire game play and if it has Zombies it will be better. But the bad things are that is getting awefuly close to being “Halo” and I personally don’t like Halo at all, and the fact Black Ops 1 was set a long time ago and then just jumping so many years ahead they just skipped the leading up into it and they could have had a lot more CoDs if they did it that way…
Ok. I’m going to say great Job Treyach for making a change at least. I remember when everyone was complaining about how every C.O.D looks the same and how they should at least change. Well Treyarch did that. Before you can judge a game and see how everything plays out. Watch the demo that comes out on E3, they will show you exactly how everything goes. Once that passes, that’s when you could judge the game to see if its good or not. Not everything you see in the trailer could appear on a Multi-player because it would be complete bullshit to have all those robot in there.
P.S – Please stop saying it looks like halo, because it really doesn’t, different time zone, different enemies, different style.

The game looks pretty crappy on first look,treyarch just sucks at making games,there hasnt been a good cod game since cod 4! Sick of all the kill streaks just makes people camp way more,I just want uav airstrike and heli no nukes and shit! I think I wont waste my money on that game and just buy the new respawn game that activison fired.
