Don’t worry folks, your Black Ops 2 Zombies aren’t at risk. Black Ops 2 will have a zombie mode (several, in fact). However, the future of the extremely popular game mode may be a bit up in the air after that. When asked, Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia was not opposed to the idea, saying “Whether it becomes a spin-off title or not, we can definitely expect more zombies”.
Zombies started as a simple mini-game in Treyarch’s 2008 Call of Duty title, World at War. They instantly became a huge hit, and they have been expanding further and further on their own since then. Almost ten months after the release of Black Ops, the game got the first zombie-exclusive DLC we had seen so far. From there, the expansion into possibly becoming a separate game has sky-rocketed, with the zombie mode in Black Ops 2 reportedly being an entirely separately developed mode with multiple game types, 8-player co-op, and competitive multiplayer.
It would seem that the writing is on the wall for zombies to break off into their own separate standalone title, similar to the way DOTA has from Starcraft. If Zombies were a completely separate game instead of just a mode within another Call of Duty game, would you buy it?
The question is who WOULDNT buy it!

ok first of all i would buy it instatly if it was just zombies but what does it mean by competitive zombies?
That there will be team vs team of players with zombies being around at the same time
I guess it means that instead of playing WITH eachother (like in the first Black Ops) as in being a team, you’re playing AGAINST eachother. I.e. who can get the most points by the end of the round(s), who can survive the longest, who can get the most kills etc.
Such as teams of people killing each other, but with zombies around trying to stay alive longer like first team with all people down loses.

Actually, DoTA is from Warcraft 3, NOT World of Warcraft.
actually DOTA came from Aeon of Strife… which derived from Starcraft. which then fully developed in the game Reign of Chaos in Warcraft 3…ㅈㅈ
I would really prefer if zombies did not turn into a stand alone game. It is totally huge to me…but it just couldn’t be the ENTIRE game. It should definitely stay as a well appreciated 2nd half to any new call of duty game! It is awesome though!

I do agree it would be to boring to have a standalone game …..yes it would get alot of sales but it would not really have a theme going with it just like deadrising Black ops mixing zombies and black ops worked becuase the two story lines connected so dont screw this up

Yeah I would def buy it. But I wanna see Nazi Zombies. If it old Nazi era Zombies, they will def be seeing my money. O ya, DOTA is for Warcraft 3, not Starcraft.

Alright well im forsure excited about Black Ops 2 Zombies in a whole new way considering an 8 player co-op, multiple game types, and competitive multiplayer. Treyarch you came a long way and as a fan of Call Of Duty Black Ops on multiplayer and zombies this means alot (especially when zombies is my favorite).. Now am i expecting the multiplayer to be great? Maybe.. But atleast ill know forsure B.O.2′s zombies will reach my expectations coming up for Black Ops 2. Now on the other hand for the “stand alone tittle” opinion, i gotta say i would. Only because ive thought of this before when i was playing WAW.. Its a great idea especially after all this suspense was built up from Call Of Duty WaW, and Black Ops, to now Black Ops 2.. Im sure it could be a stand alone tittle. The proof is shown from numbers of call of duty fanatics of the zombies, and ive heard more than 100 people say,”I only Bought this call of duty for the zombies”. Let alone letting you know some will just buy the game even the thought hating the multiplayer and campaign will still buy the game for zombies. If they dedicated a whole game just for zombies, well the possibilities would be endless, and treyarch does have the potential and imagination to make it happen. So Treyarch keep the good work, cant wait to get the game!

I think that may be the dumbest comment I’ve read on these forums. Your saying CoD multiplayer is repetitive with different game modes like Search, KC, TDM, Headquarters and so on. Yet, Zombies which only had one game mode and will now have maybe 3, is not? You start off in the same exact place with Zombies coming out of the same exact areas. Whereas in CoD yes there are certain spawn areas in certain game modes but you’re playing against real life people who can think and react to what you do.
Honestly, I do like Zombies, it’s a nice break from CoD but I think it’s for those not skilled enough to compete with real life people. Especially when people like you say CoD is repetitive, yet Zombies isn’t? C’mon.
With all this being said, I don’t think it should be its own stand alone game because then you’d have two games to buy instead of just one. For those of you just buying the game for Zombies, even so I’d rather have two games for $60 than just one. That way when you meet some friends, if ever that happens, and they want to play CoD you’re not having to be lame and say no and you don’t have to run out and spend another $60. To even justify getting its own box they’d have to deliver so much more than they are with Blops2 and if you mess with a good thing too much you’re gonna end up messing the whole thing up.

Actually DotA is a mod based on AoS, a custom map for starcraft. The writers didn’t make a mistake you merely misunderstood the point they were trying to make.

NO WAY!!!! I would never buy that. Zombies is an added game feature that goes beautifully with the rest of the game. With it being on a seperate game i would stop buying COD all together and just play Black Ops form then on!

The only reason I will purchase BopsII is for the Zombies. With 8 player online capability, the room for growth and expansion is endless. I would like to see a quick multiplayer mode of 7 on 1; where the 7 can be the zombies and the 1 player only has a 1911 or knife. As the rounds progess, your zombie gets stronger and faster.

really people only for zombies….-.- its an added game mode on COD its a mini game to be exact. I would stop buying COD altogether if they made a COD game only dedicated to zombies. i would play multiplayer online and play the campaign and even play the zombie game mode on Black ops 2 if its all on one disc. i would not spend $120 for 2 games that are pretty much the same…

I have played COD since it came out on the PS2. Zombies are a very fun and good addition to the series although they not good enough to be a stand alone game. It is basically trying to compete with other zombie FPS like Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 which already exist. It will only result in extra expenditures for COD fans. COD is known for having an amazing multiplayer experience and is thus why I choose it over others like BF and Halo although each good respectively. I know that if anyone is actually GOOD in COD multiplayer i.e. are positive and know how to play, they enjoy the challenge much more then playing against computer zombies. Ultimately zombies are good for people who enjoy the game and aren’t very skilled or competitive. I have almost never witnessed a skilled zombie player who is also a skilled multiplayer. Anyone who prefers zombies over multiplayer is HONESTLY not that good at multiplayer. Which doesn’t really matter since the point of video games is to have fun.

I think that this will be a good idea because a lot of my friends say they only bought black ops for zombies and will buy black ops 2 for sure only for zombie mode.

the people that are saying they wouldnt spend a whole lot of money on this; think about it. if zombies became a stand alone game. they would add a campaign,not just a backstory. and there would also be just plain naiz zmobies, and probably other modes too. not probably, there would be. just some freeplay mode for you and your buddies and a campaign mode. they would manage to make it a great game, i would give them my money

You should make it stand alone, but u shud make regular zombies an arcade mode, u shud make online where u can be a zombie vs. humans, AND YOU SHOULD MAKE A CAMPAIGN WHERE YOU CAN FIND A CURE TO THE VIRUS. MAKE IT LIKE WAVE 20 TO UNLOCK NEXT LEVEL
i think its a great idea for zombies to be its own game, but if it wasnt a call of duty game, it’d just be weird. We all know that zombies is like the greatest idea ever!, but why not just leave it and call of duty together or make them a two disc special game, wqith a new COD and zombies. Maybe the discs might actually last longer!!!

No, I wouldn’t get it. I like being able to get the whole thing with one payment, I enjoy zombies along with the rest of the game, multiplayer is a big part of the game too, they shouldn’t be seperate. It’s nice to be able to back out of one mode and switch to the other, and I wouldn’t give Treyarch 120$ for something that should barely cost $60. Anyone else remember how much $20 used to be able to buy?

You dont even have to fight get your weapons or parts to your weapon just dont spend your money on shit and you got the best weapon ever in lvl 30 its FUCKING boring!!!!

This is what they should’ve done- added a zombie campaign in black ops.
make a two disc game of where one is like regular and the other zombies. yes I know some people may not like it which those people are dumb.
they need to reveal more about Sam…soon hopefully in Bo2 we will know more like what has been goin on for the time period from Bo and Bo2 in zombies- cause it takes place in the future…totatlly off subject but who’s getting Halo 4 and Black ops 2 then playing and beating both?(:
This is just another way to steal the consumers already taxed dollar…65 a game…and now your going to try to split it…meh…activison is going the same way EA did…and I won’t buy EA until the reverse their policy of charging for multiplayer access…and neither should any one you…don’t spend the money and they will bend.

I’ll buy it if they keep easteregggs, maybe another pack-a-punch level, many more guns, perks, power ups, cool zombies,bring back flamethrower as well the guns from WAW, and black ops (1), add other melee type guns and pistols, mant differnet character types including the originals(playing as hitler would be ironic), themed maps, mode where onetime use veacles (can’t spell it), maybe custom character skins(very low maybe),Low maybe on map creation,new leader board look(maybe),Longer musical eastereggs(and more of the too), intresting storyline,longlife server(When I live to be maybe 80 years old still be able to play), Structure damage(maybe),Cutscenes(for eastereggs as well able to skip if desired),No futuristic robots that fight us in game unless its a melee type no ranged zombies(maybe fast zombies,mode with bosses, Keep old maps, smooth gameplay(not too much lag), mute button(annoying peaple),No mid game join(people will take advantage of it),New and intressting traps and across map movement, reasonable gun price(pack-a-punch stays 5000),more hacker related maps,spikemores are awesomes,intense clutches,QUICK SCOPEING PLZ(YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS, PEOPLE LIKE QUICK SCOPEING ZOMBIES WITH SNIPERRIFLES)Offline play(splitscreen),Events,No rank unlocks(seroisly do not follow MOD3 example of survival),Maybe minigames,Skin types(other skins for characters so peaple can use their favorite characters),WONDER WEAPONS!!!,Character Bios(loved WAWs),(let us jump on crates jumping up and rubbing against them is wierd[like my spelling]),NO ELITE EVERYBODY GETS STUFF TOGETHER BESIDES PREORDERS(cause pre-order always work like that but still DLC IS TO BE RELEASED TO ANYBODY WHO CAN AFFORD IT OR HAVE VERY GIVING PEOPLE IN THEIR LIVES),Only Dlc maps with weapons not DLC WEAPONS ALONE TO BE UNLOCK(YOU WANNA DO THAT THEN DO IT IN THE PATCHES AND UPDATES NO WEAPON ADVANTAGE DUE TO PURCHASED CONTENT(SERIOSLY GOSH!!),DO NOT PUT WAVE LIMITS BESIDES ON LEADERBOARDS(99 leaderboard is nice and plz update our wave reached cause I have 2005 kills on wave 11 on Accention and Call of the Dead,If seperate game have easy lobby management for host and easy kicking besides in game(for instance i join an online game and then they end game right away id prefer to have been kicked because they only wanted to play with their friends),Keep the playercard board for easy invite and joining as well that handy mute button when you press back or select on the remotes(people play load music on their mics and hope we like it),Maybe more monuments, like a roman stadium or maybe an ancient city(Like Babalon),Check out some of the maps people made as modes for WAW and blackops and use some of them with permission and balance them out,do not forget a quility setting not every one has fast connection, and include control configeration(some people are lefty and others like tactical),option on turning auto aim on/off,A nice big maneul like the old days because now there is bearly any info in maneuls anymore,option for friendly fire(People like to have little fun),more grenade types not just hand grenedes,frags,and semtex, cool and intressting achievments and trophies,DO NOT PULL Playstation plus only content cause that is not cool where one console gets this and the other gets something else, and put it on all platforms so all current consoles can enjoy it,I have many more things i like to include but if i do this list goes on and on.SO MAKE IT AWESOMES!!!!!
if they sold a zombies only mode, that would be cool because they could charge $20 for black ops 2 multiplayer. then they could get rid of campaign also because its worse than zombies and i could play the only good part of the game, multiplayer. then all the other dorks can go play with zombies and robots all they want.
I think that if they had a zombies only game and then had a zombie campaign. You have to go through the levels as the usual campaign, but it is zombies instead of real people. Who thinks that would be awesome.

What competetive means is that there are teams like you can be a zombie and the others are humans or like were you are doing Human V. Human with zombies in the way.
I’m thinking that people who hate zombie games wont buy this game. But I would because I love Zombie Games ALOT.
No shit, the zombies is the only reason half of the COD(now zombies fans) fans buy the game.. If you break apart COD, it has a shitty storyline(always has),a shitty multiplayer filled with 12yr old brats, and then zombies.. If you think about it, zombies just ripped us off, the 3 games cost us Zombie Mode lovers at about $180, then if you go and add DLC it adds $15 for each one(about 6 in all) So if Treyarch doesn’t make a game for it only costing $60(INSTEAD OF A PRICE OVER $200!), then I will write them some pissed off fan emails..
Features I would want in a standalone cod zombies
1. A campaign that puts all the maps together to make a storyline (only maps that relate to storyline)
2. Huge multiplayer games with huge new maps
3. Plenty of updates for randomization. (spice it up a little with different spawns and weapon locations
