Capcom has a few events planned for their Street Fighter 25-year Anniversary. The legendary fighting title will be offering a sizable amount of things for fans, starting with the mild announcement of a Playstation Vita release date for Street Fighter X Tekken.
The handheld version of the game already released on other platforms will be arriving on October 19, 2012. Along with an impressive 55 character roster and 3G or Wifi online multiplayer, the Vita version also has a few exclusive features. For one, you’ll be able to take augmented reality pictures with your favorite characters. Additionally, the Vita version will include front and rear touchscreen capabilities, along with using its Near function to locate opponents. You’ll also be able to keep a KO Monument of all the fools you’ve wasted. Players can also switch data and cross-play with a Playstation 3 model.
Additionally, Capcom is teaming up with an organization called iam8bit to create an art exhibition with contribution from over 50 artists worldwide. The gallery will open in Los Angeles on August 3, 2012 and will run until the 19th. Admission is free and welcomes all ages. More so, attendees will be immersed into an actual Bonus Round which will transport them inside the game.
What isn’t free are the 2 premium sets made for the Street Fighter anniversary. One of these items is the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set, which features a ton of the fighter game’s iterations, along with more additional goodies. There are videos and an 11-disc soundtrack and even a Ryu statue that lights up. This box comes at a suggested price of $149.99.
For those that would like to spend even more cash in style, there is a Street Fighter 25th Anniversry Chess Set. This exclusive item limited to 5000 pieces, features detailed silver and resin busts of some of the franchise’s characters on a smoked and sandblasted game board. This set that comes with a marked certificate of authenticity is set at a price of $299.95.
I like the extras they are offering, definitely something for the additional cash they are asking for- unlike some other special editions that don’t really offer anything special, other than the price.
That chess set sounds pretty cool, though at that price, I won’t be getting one. If they could release a cheaper version for around $35 to $50, I would be all over it- Street Fighter and Chess, they just sound good together.
