You guys, EA isn’t so bad. The company once dubbed “the worst of America” is paving the way of progress in untapped fields. For the first time in gaming history, an EA Sports title will add female playable characters to its roster in NHL 13.
Not just any women will take to the ice in the new hockey game; instead the 2 actual people are given the highest honor of Legends in the yearly iteration. The two in question are American star Angela Ruggiero and Team Canada’s Hayley Wickenheiser; both of whom are Olympic medalists as well. They join legendary names like Wayne Gretzky in the Legends Teams mode where you’ll be able to choose either one as leaders of their packs, with teams the athletes personally selected.
The addition comes as an addition to last year’s NHL 12, which added generic female characters in its Be a Pro mode, after a young fan felt that females were underrepresented in the sport. The legends are incorporated in Team Legends mode, as well as Be a GM and Be a Legend mode; the latter of which allows players to take their Be a Pro career to the next level.
This year’s NHL 13 will improve gameplay with the usual enhancements that are said to make it the most realistic experience ever, through True Performance Skating and EA Sports Hockey I.Q. elements. It also adds GM Connected and NHL Moments Live modes. The demo is available for download right now through the usual networks and the full game will bombard players on September 11, 2012 in North America and later that week in Europe.
The company is also adding more strong female role models on Facebook, well, sort of at least. It announced a new social game called JetSet Secrets that combines hidden object games with RPG elements and builder simulations to make sure to catch all markets at once. Players will take charge of a team with prominently displayed women and thwart evil plans with their “sexy sleuthing” skills, whilst looking fabulous. It’s all about staying classy, as you explore exotic locales and fight crime.
The sexy espionage game doesn’t have a release date as of yet, but you can already take a look at a short video that details its 7 game modes and many characters.
