A new immersive adventure has arisen from out of nowhere. Burian Media Enterprises announced the PC exclusive Dark Shadows – Army of Evil, to arrive somewhere between September and October of 2012.
The first person singleplayer game focuses on a medieval tale of knights and monsters where our hero must rescue a fair maiden from the wickedness that plagues the land. In total, Dark Shadows will feature 19 levels in a day and night cycle and differing weather conditions to create a range of atmospheres depending on the location. Players will be able to choose between 18 weapons that can be found during their adventure. With these tools, they’ll need to bash the heads of the oncoming hordes of bad guys. It seems to rely heavily on blood effects and a gore factor of splatters and slow motion camera angles.
Quite frankly, Dark Shadows looks dated, so much so that the game reminded us of the PSOne era of games and in particular of Nightmare Creatures. The voice acting is also quite emotionally void. As long as the gameplay will offer more than just gore, it shouldn’t pose a problem however. Graphics aren’t everything and we all remember RPG epics like Morrowind fondly, despite the dated textures.
