Greenlight Bundle

Digital platform Steam recently launched a new program called Greenlight where the community can vote on what games they’d like to add to the store. In order to spread awareness for a few excellent indie games that want to get added through this medium, the Green Light Bundle has been born.

The promotion isn’t as much for charity as is usually the case; rather it serves a direct promotional status. For merely 1 buck, gamers can get a hold of 4 games: Ichi, Muffin Knight, Dino Run SE and Syder Arcade. For $5, they’ll also receive Samurai II Vengeance, Gunman Clive, Paper Monsters and Guerilla Bob, as well as some game soundtracks.

Ichi is a puzzle game operated with just one button, which was previously also featured on the 1UP Bundle. This title is made by Stolen Couch Games, the Dutch developer responsible for hosting the Green Light Bundle. Muffin Knight is your standard action packed arcade platformer and Syder Arcade is your classic shmup, resembling an ode to R-Type. Dino Run SE might be the most entertaining of the first tier, offering a hectic running game with a pixelated presentation.

In the second tier, games have a slightly more alluring look. Samurai II Vengeance mixes heavy cel-shading with a sleek finish for a stunning comic-styled hacker. Paper Monsters is another classic platform adventure and Guerilla Bob is the run and gun variety of that. The winner for us in the $5 category is Gunman Clive. While it merely mixes the platform and gunning elements, its motion sketch presentation seems to be taken right out of the “Take on Me” video from A-ha. You know the one.

While several titles are obvious mobile device ports, there’s still a lot of fun to be had with 8 games for a minimum of $5. Again, we always advise chipping in a few bucks more, so developers may eat. All games are completely DRM-free. If that isn’t your thing, then get the games anyway, since buying the bundle ensures you that you’ll receive a Steam code whenever one of the games gets approved for the digital platform. You’re bound to save some money by being smart and shopping at this mart.
