insurgency 2

Insurgency is the name of a popular mod from the days of Half Life 2. This free to play full conversion mod based on the Source engine grew to some reputable strength, such as winning Mod of the Year on one of the main modding websites ModDb in 2007. Now, a Kickstarter campaign has started to bring Insurgency 2 to market.

Originally planned as a PC release, this sequel will continue a brand of realism gameplay, without falling to sluggish pacing like other titles. It took a while for the project to come to fruition as the success of the original lead most of its creators to start lucrative lives at big names such as Crytek or Gearbox. Some of these people have now come back to deliver on a highly demanded sequel. This means that they now have some serious experience under their belts.

The Kickstarter page is asking for a goal of $180,000. With this money developer New World Interactive wants to make a steady and swift progression to their title already in the works. While the project is already strongly built and could technically be completed without funds, backing this campaign would guarantee a release in the relatively near future, as well as a quality build that can grow depending on the funds retrieved.

Gameplay is said to be a mix of classics such as Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear and Day of Defeat. The former is one of yours truly’s all-time favorites as well. The build of Insurgency 2 is said to contain similarities with that of its previous game in order to facilitate familiarity with the first community.

Some extra tiers that can be attained through additional funding include extra maps, extra weapons, cooperative gameplay and a console version if the goal is tremendously successful.
