Here’s a concept not frequently used in iOS games. Peak Systems released a game called Carpet Ball, which is unlike most multiplayer titles on the platform.
In Carpet Ball, up to 4 players compete against each other by shuffling a ball across the screen and into that of the opponent. The goal is to knock down all the balls of your competition. The twist here is that this isn’t some intangible luck shot played over the internet. Rather, Carpet Ball keeps things social by forcing players within proximity of each other. Consider it a digital shuffleboard. Carpet Ball is out on the App Store for a mere $0.99.
It will have some big competition in order to succeed however. First Star Software, the creators of a recently relaunched Boulder Dash format, announced that the rerelease of classic Spy Vs Spy on iOS is a booming hit. The multiplayer title with black and white spies has reached the top of the sale charts in its opening weekend for several countries, including the number 1 spot for iPhone in the US. The app is available right now for a discounted $0.99 for a limited time, until it returns to $1.99.
