The PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale line up thus far has mostly good characters. Overall, the All Stars are composed of the heroes we have grown to love in throughout our PlayStation experiences. On the other hand, a few are iffy choices, but I suppose they will add more variety to the game. Still, I can’t see the sense in adding Fat Princess or PaRappa Rapper when they have thus far left out some other pretty big potential All Stars. Here are some of the obvious choices I believe should show up on the roster:
#1 – Nathan Hale (Resistance Series)
PlayStation Exclusive: Yes
Game Appearances: 2
First Appearance: Resistance: Fall of Man (2006)
Fighting Skill: 4 out of 5
Nathan Hale is a soldier who pretty much single handedly saved both Britain and America from the apocalyptic Chimeran invasion. He is a master of survival, being partly immune to the Chimeran virus, and a master of destroying anything the Chimeran forces attempt to throw at him. Nathan wields an insanely destructive arsenal of futuristic weapons that include the Auger, which shoots a force-field and can shoot through walls, the Bullseye that shoots a tracking dart that all the bullets home into, and the deadly Hailstorm that kills all sorts of stuff. With his weaponry, Nathan Hale is more than enough suited to combat the All Stars.
Verdict: 5 out of 5 All Stars! Nathan Hale is another great PlayStation exclusive hero who deserves to be a part of this game. Plus he has great potential for special moves considering he is a human/chimera hybrid super soldier.
#2 – Sack Boy (Little Big Planet Series)
Playstation Exclusive: Yes
Game Appearances: 3
First Appearance: Little Big Planet (2008)
Fighting Skill: 0 out of 5
If we’re adding cute little PlayStation exclusives to the All Stars, why not this little guy too? Sure he doesn’t have any attacking skills of his own, but he can make hilarious facial expressions and disco dance and put stickers on scenery. Plus he is the face of the really successful Little Big Planet hit. He deserves to be on the roster more than some of the other I believe, and his specials can consist of dropping goofy creations on other characters.
Verdict: 3 out of 5 All Stars. He is definitely not a fighter, and everything remotely hostile hurts him, but he would still be a welcome addition to the roster just because of the happiness he brings into the room.
#3 – Solid Snake (Metal Gear Series)
PlayStation Exclusive: For the most part
Game Appearances: 5
First Appearance: Metal Gear (1987)
Fighting Skill: 3 out of 5
Solid Snake is the true super spy of the video game world. While Bond or Fisher might have him beat overall, Snake has the style. A master of stealth and silent killing, Snake has the skills to combat the other All Stars quite handily. Snake has had to fight his own mentor, Big Boss, and his twin brothers, Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake, in order to save the world. Now that is commitment.
Verdict: 4 out of 5 All Stars. Snake would be a great addition to the All Star roster. He is a master of stealth fighting which would add to the style of play similar Sly Cooper, just more deadly. Raiden could also be a possible addition, especially with the new Metal Gear starring him coming up.
#4 – Ratchet & Clank (Ratchet and Clank Series)
PlayStation Exclusive: Yes
Game Appearances: 10
First Appearance: Ratchet and Clank (2002)
Fighting Skill: 5 out of 5
If the other two cartoony PlayStation series characters, Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper, are included in the All Star line-up, Ratchet and Clank must be as well. Equipped with a giant arsenal of crazy weapons and gadgets, this duo can dish out incredible amounts of damage. With weapons like the Vortex Cannon that is essentially a vacuum cleaner/launcher of death, the Black Sheepinator that turns enemies into time-bomb sheep, and the crazy powerful RYNO, Ratchet and Clank can cause all sorts of destruction.
Verdict: 5 out of 5 All Stars. Why this duo hasn’t been confirmed for the All Star roster is a mystery. They can easily fit right into the list of PlayStation exclusive deadly combatants, despite their seemingly cartoony cuteness.
#5 – False King Allant (Demon’s Souls)
Playstation Exclusive: Yes
Game Appearances: 1 (Demon’s souls)
Fighting Skill: 5 out of 5
Similar in style to Radec, this guy has probably killed every person who has played Demon’s Souls at least five times. He is incredibly fast, powerful, has magical powers, and his entire purpose is to keep you from beating the game, which he does quite handily. He has no personality or emotions. He’s just big, evil and powerful, and he wields a big sword.
Verdict: 4 out of 5. This guy is hated by all, but he is another big boss exclusive to PlayStation I’m sure everybody would love to either play as or kick the crap out of. He isn’t a famous PlayStation character, but he is definitely infamous.
PlayStation Exclusive: Yes
Commercial Appearances: Over 30
First Appearance: Dustin vs. PlayStation as Director of Game Accuracy (2009)
Fighting Skill: He Only Does Everything
If Japan is getting their Sony mascot, Toro Inoue, in the All Star line-up, why can’t we get America’s PlayStation mascot? Kevin Butler, the believable but not Vice President of Sony PlayStation would be a hilarious addition to the game. He could be the VP of Battle Royale Relations. I’m sure Kevin could bring the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter as his weapon and wreak all kinds of havoc.
Verdict: 5 out of 5 All Stars! Long Live Play!
How about you? Do you feel like there are any other big names left out of the All Star roster? Or some characters that shouldn’t be in the roster?
