New Xbox Live Apps Youtube

Microsoft has just rolled out yet another update to your sexy new XBox Live dashboard.  This time around, the update is full of new apps including Youtube, HBO Go, Verizon Fios Television, TMZ, MSNBC, and iHeartRadio.

If you were in the XBL Fall Preview Program then you should have already had access to these.  There was some confusion that the Fall Preview Program ended when the new Xbox Live dashboard launched for everyone else, but that is not the case.  The program actually lasts through the end of the year, with various things being rolled out to those special few prior to them going out to everyone else.  Nonetheless, in the case of these apps, the mere “normies” now have access to them as well.

The apps differ by region, of course.  Many are not available in Canada and, in exchange, Canada gets things like Rogers on Demand (which is unique to them), while the UK gets Blinkbox.  TMZ, Verizon Fios, iHeartRadio, and MSNBC are all unique to the U.S. for now.

If you’re wondering how iHeartRadio differs from Live.FM they’re actually very different apps.  While Live.FM is more about creating your own music stations based on what you like, iHeartRadio is there to actually deliver you with the very same radio stations you could listen to with actual radios around the country.  As such, your Xbox will now act like the most powerful radio on the planet with access to tons of stations around the country and no annoying static.

Enjoy.
