The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword may have been a critical winner, but it seems Nintendo is unlikely to reuse many of its locations and gameplay elements in future Zelda titles. The series’ production director, Eiji Aonuma, recently told the press that the game’s art style and layout are unlikely to appear in future games due to its position at the start of the series’ timeline.
The Zelda timeline is, of course, a fairly contentious topic for both fans of the series and its own developers. With Skyward Sword at the beginning, it looks like Nintendo will be looking at new worlds and graphical styles for any future Zelda games. We’re just hoping these self-imposed limitations will result in more off-beat Zelda games like Majora’s Mask and Link’s Awakening.
