Move over, zombies. Orcs are the new thing in gaming. That, or perhaps these two orc-related news items simultaneously hitting are pure coincidence.

The sequel Orcs Must Die 2 announced a new game mode for its tower defense sleeper hit. A new Endless mode will allow players to take on a never ending horde of monsters that will increase progressively in challenge as time goes on. This will be available both in singleplayer as well as cooperative play and feature 5 campaign levels, plus a bonus of five original creations specifically designed for the new game mode.

Players will need to rely on their trap skills in order to rake in resources to keep placing obstacles and knock down the next wave. In addition, every five assaults, an Ogre by the name of Mr. Moneybags will march his golden plated booty through the level. If players manage to take this walking treasure down, they’ll receive more goodies.

On the other hand, Cyanide Studio is keeping busy with Of Orcs and Men. This title seems almost identical to the earlier release of Game of Thrones, except the George Martin universe has subsided for a medieval fantasy realm with beasts. It is presented with largely similar character models however; even the clothing and architecture bear a resemblance, as well as that warm glow surrounding an otherwise highly contrasted palette. Really, the only difference so far in this adventure seems to be 8 foot Orcs that look like a swarm of Incredible Hulks that toss midgets around. There’s also magic in there somewhere, but even that can be seen in the Game of Thrones game. We wonder if this game will get more critical acclaim than the heavier licensed predecessor.
