Paradox Interactive has just finished a tour in which they presented several of their upcoming titles. They closed the event by releasing 6 different videos for their projects, detailed below.
As announced earlier, Impire will be a collaboration between Cyanide and Paradox. It will offer a dungeon building strategy game with a great evil in a small body. The teaser shows off snippets of gameplay, such as the dungeon schemes and a blip of how to build rooms. Dungeon Keeper fans better keep an eye out on both this and A Game of Dwarves; another Paradox title coming soon.
War of the Roses continues showing its bloodier side with some in-game footage of the medieval carnage that is the feudal version of Battlefield. This trailer will reveal the more ranged side of things. Just because all previous videos focused on cutting throats and stabbing doesn’t mean the first person multiplayer title wouldn’t include shooting. In fact, you’ll even be able to shoot while horseback riding! The camera also periodically swings by the scenic environments of castles and meadows alike; all of which will turn red as apparently archery leads to a ton of gore.
Yours truly’s personal favorite is Dungeonland: a cooperative hack and slash game where players visit an amusement park ruled by an evil Dungeon Master (DM). In this clip, we’ll see exactly how cruel a DM can get. Place a new horde of monsters right in the adventurers’ faces or place traps, cast spells and so on. The game encourages the DM to “be a jerk.” Like a good DM really needs an incentive. You D&D fans will know what we’re talking about. The Dungeonland master is so evil he even laces his trailer with squirting cows and dubstep.
Another interesting project is the MMO Salem. In this clip we’ll get guided by a pilgrim narrator as he takes us through his settler ways. Salem is themed in the New World of the Americas and glorifies the wilderness and explorations in these pioneer times. Apparently, it will include real places, such as Boston. Also, we are warned by Gordon Van Dyke of Battlefield fame to beware of 3 naked Russians, which seem to associate with the strange disappearances of people. Could it be related to murders? There’s a lot of intrigue. Luckily, most of the game will be viewed from afar, as the clip’s close-ups reveal some disturbing and strange visual choices.
Starvoid continues the line of upcoming multiplayer titles with a team-based strategy game. Up to 12 players can compete against each other and control a bunch of droids to do their murderous bidding. The clip has tons of explosive gameplay, which looks rather hectic. Naturally, a leveling scheme will come to pass that will allow for even more tenacious killing robots and such. Additionally, Starvoid will include drop-in servers, so that the desireto kill can be soothed as quickly as possible.
Lastly, The Showdown Effect reveals one of its themes with a medieval trailer. Consider this multiplayer as a side-scrolling version of War of the Roses, but with even more frantic gameplay. The new project from the creators of Paradox’ other zany title Magicka continues with a theme of utter mayhem. The clip details a ton of swords, bows, but also mini-guns and bazookas. All of this carnage comes with tons of flashy effects and blood spatterseverywhere. Apparently, this will be accompanied by a Wilhelm scream.
Which one is your favorite title so far? Let us know.
