sleeping dogs investigation

Sleeping Dogs is 10 or so days away from hitting the streets and hitting it hard. Yet, gruesome combat, slo-mo shooting and adrenaline racing isn’t the only thing this Square Enix title has going. The open world game will have actual police work in there, as seen in these 11 minutes of gameplay.

In this mission walkthrough, we take a look at the police investigation process in this game. Protagonist Wei is an undercover cop, which makes sleuthing risky. When one of his gang comes up as dead in a list of dead gangsters, it’s time to go check out the victims. On the way to the location, we’ll see flashy items, indicating interactive environment. A mini-map also sprinkles objectives all over the map, conveniently color-coded for your distraction.

Getting into an autopsy laboratory or any crime scene is a bit tricky for a man fronting as a criminal. As Wei can’t blow his cover among other police officers, Sleeping Dogs will utilize disguises to fool guards. To get past certain more skeptic people, the developers implemented something called Fast Talk. Here, a quick time event will make a certain bluff succeed when you need to fool certain skeptics, even if they’re cops. To investigate as thoroughly as possible, players will heavily rely on a multifunctional PDA. This little device will allow them to take interesting pictures, access records and so on. It’s this way that Wei can document some chilling discoveries that will make his next move a trip to the hospital.

Once at the clinic, Wei dons a new disguise. This time, a doctor outfit will allow him to walk casually amongst staff. Sleeping Dogs makes sure to include ambient conversations around the player. For instance, some of the hospital staff will discuss a sudden rise in injuries, referring to the player’s mayhem within the city.

Another use for the PDA is used when Wei hacks into a computer. This prompts a mini-game with 4 different numbers. It has a fairly basic system that allows the player to crack code without necessarily doing additional sleuthing to obtain a code. Another mini-game is also seen when Wei plants a bug in a doctor’s office. Here, a signal must be acquired by optimally aligning control sticks until the prompt flashes green.

Once the trap is set, Wei only has to wait for everything to come together in order to reveal the dark twist within the mission. Now, the man has to speed towards his friend, who is getting targeted to a serial killer linked to the whole endeavor. Again, this poses an issue, as the only way Wei could be knowledgeable of this occurrence, is if he’s a cop. Therefore, he must devise a scheme to get to the killer without his friend realizing. Here’s where hijacking a car by jumping from another vehicle comes in handy, as seen in the previous clip.
