Sweet gorilla of Manilla, the Playstation 3 RPG throwback Rainbow Moon has solidified a release date. This isometric Playstation Network exclusive will drop in Europe on July 4, 2012 and July 10 for other regions. It will cost €9.99/$14.99, which means that for once the exchange rates are more favorable towards European audiences. More so, Playstation Plus subscribers will be able to take advantage of a 20% discount for the first two weeks past its launch.
Two developer diaries have been released to prepare you for the game. The first video is an introduction, which goes over how long the game is and what difficulties you can expect. It mentions an option to choose a play style, according to which you’ll receive more gear or rough it out. If you care about the plot, this intro will dish out why exactly Rainbow Moon will be what it is. There is also a Populous-style map, quest explanation, logging, tutorial messages and more.
The second diary takes a broader look at the turn-based combat that follows any number of ‘tactics’ games. Players will meet monsters on the map that show indicators for how large their groups are and what the highest level in that party is. Optional random encounters will also appear, but can be dismissed and only serve as additional experience battles. Three characters fight on a grid and can use special skills that require mana points. For instance, a skill can target multiple enemies and incapacitate foes. Over 120 of these special attacks will be present in the game. More so, the game will work with a bias towards a certain attack preference. Together with 6 weapon affinities that follow a rock paper scissors scheme, this will indicate how much damage a character can do.
