Sleeping Dogs Launch

Square Enix issued a post-release demo for Sleeping Dogs. The open world action title from United Front Games can be sampled for PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

The demo only covers a fraction of the possibilities within the extensive game by offering 2 missions that by definition stunt the sandbox feel. The first task is one of the game’s first objectives. Protagonist Wei Shen is an enforcer in a local market district. He’s obliged to chase down someone through the streets, which comes with lots of free running elements before boiling down to a brawl. Here, you’ll get to sample some of the simplified fighting cinematics as well as the gruesome environmental finishers.

The second mission takes place at the harbor and details the game’s shooting mechanisms. Sleeping Dogs takes a more active stance in cover based shooting. Here, players are rewarded for leaping out of cover to unload their clips in Hong Kong action movie style, complete in slow motion. Chaining together kills will prolong this effect and thus take out leagues of bad guys in mere seconds.

For those reading this and interested in playing the demo, be warned that it does not represent the full game at all. There are still lots of open world collectibles, chases, disguises and even karaoke. It’s a very solid game though, so have fun.
