Version 2 Games has released its debut title Smash ‘N Survive exclusively to the Sony Entertainment Network. It’s one of several vehicular combat titles to come out in recent times, along with Twisted Metal or Wheels of Destruction later this year.
The highly detailed and highly chaotic title will feature 30 concept cars with full customization possibilities. Players will take on 10 different destructible circuits in a singleplayer campaign, but will also be able to play together in multiplayer and splitscreen.
The launch trailer shows off some of the extensive weaponry that can be added to vehicles, as well as the carnage they unleash. Some notable features include a huge buzz saw mounted on the front bumper, lightning, lasers, sonic weapons and more lush exploits. It has a strong vibe of classics like Vigilante 8.
Further on, it also displays its different game modes, such as Plant the Bomb or a Team Derby mode that is reminiscent of another classic: Destruction Derby. These modes are rather self-explanatory, but it will be intriguing to see how the Territory Control mode will work with vehicles.
At the end, an ominous Repulsor weapon is briefly shown blowing away the competition. This might be a pivotal item to acquire in the game. Smash ‘N Survive is available right now on the European network for £9.99/€12.99. Car violence only gets it a moderate rating of ages 7 and up, because killing cars is not that traumatizing.
