Sony dropped a whole bunch of mail in our mailbox this week. The first and probably most important one is the announcement of the new God of War: Ascension game. This game will be a prequel that talks about the backstory of Kratos. At least they didn’t subtitle it as “Origins,” that alone is a good move. The announcement comes with a spiffy teaser to go nuts over.
Secondly, Europe will finally receive some brand new colors Playstation 3 consoles. These limited edition issues will come in Scarlet Red, Classic White and our favorite Satin Silver, because it looks like a humongous 3DS. The limited edition PS3’s are the 320Gb version and come with 2 Dualshock 3 controllers of equal color for their €299 price tag.
Lastly, Europe will finally receive Sony’s neat 3D Display. The 24 inch screen comes with 2 3D glasses, 2 HDMI outputs, 1 component output for Playstation 2 and PSP connectivity and it runs on 1080p HD. Additionally, it comes with the patented SimulView technology that lets two players see a different part of the screen, instead of having to resort to split screens.
There’s just one huge catch: The 3D display marketed as “affordable” for North America will cost Europeans €499 or 660 dollars. That’s roughly 160 bucks more. The European bundle does come with two games, instead of the one Motorstorm game: Killzone 3 and Gran Turismo 5 platinum editions. That’s a very meager consolation. For example, that extra money could score you a brand an Xbox 360 on the side. It kind of kills that whole “affordable” pitch.
