Independent developer Kerberos Productions released their dungeon crawler PC game called Sword of the Stars: The Pit. As the name suggests, this title is tied in to the Sword of the Stars lore, though this iteration is self-published, which means Kerberos has the rights to its IP. That’s a rare occurrence in business models these days. Just look at Gas Powered Games.
Back to the point: This roguelike will feature a set of randomized content, so gameplay will stay fresh with each playthrough. For instance, players receive special effects for their character and equipment alike and can improve their skills as they level up. There are 3 character classes, being Marine, Scout and Engineer. Over 50 weapons and armor are available in over 30 levels with dozens of room types. Additionally, items can be crafted from found scraps. Lastly, there will be hidden messages throughout the game.
Sword of the Stars: The Pit is out right now on Gamersgate for $8.99. Those interested can also find a demo containing 6 of the levels right here.
