Grim

The Netherlands has a rich gaming culture and for indie gamers this means that there’s more interesting games in store for you. How about one more free to play shooter? This one’s called Grim.

Currently in open Beta, developer Moreploygons wants to recreate a high budget experience with a small, independently built game. In order to do so, the creators planned their time management one year before actually working on the game, to optimize workflow. This is coming from a small team all made up of students of all people; take that, modern generation!

Grim will offer 2 maps built in the Unreal Engine 3. The first map called Outpost offers a classic Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch game mode, while the other level called Climb works on a new concept. In the latter map, players will play something called Breach, which works as follows: Players get divided in teams and play 7 rounds of being either an attacker or defender. In each of these rounds, lasting no more than 3 minutes, the attackers must reach the end goal with as many people as possible. To get to that objective, they must activate a button that breaches closed doors, sectioning off their progress. Gameplay will therefore revolve mostly around defending these buttons in order to get through or halt an oncoming assault.

After each round, players will also receive Credits to purchase new abilities, upgrades, items and so forth. One of these abilities is Leap, which allows them to jump over entire sections and reach new destinations or avoid danger.

If you’d like to partake in some free shooting, then head on down to their website and download the Beta here.
