The War Z

Great minds usually think alike. That’s what Hammerpoint Interactive when they started working on The War Z and made a zombie survival simulation MMO that would then see its thunder stolen by Arma mod Day Z. Still, the Z-MMO will finally head into closed Beta shortly and preorders for the game will allow for early access.

There are 2 preorder packs available. The first is called Survivor and costs $19.49 for now and $29.99 later on. This pack will grant access to the game at the start of the closed Beta on October 31, 2012. A more lavish pack called Pioneer will allow for special Alpha access starting on October 15. This deal priced at $29.99 for now and $49.99 after October 20 will also include in-game currency a special forum badge and map server hosting for a unique world in the game.

They’ve chosen to advertise the game with a 4 minute clip of in-game gameplay, featuring two cringe-worthy players talking to each other. We can’t say for sure if what they’re discussing are actually true or if it’s just 2 PR reps overstating things to create buzz, but we’ll assume the former. The gameplay is situated in a large city. The two are running around, shooting some zombies now and then in the dark of night. You can use a flashlight to illuminate enemies and guns can be changed by going into the inventory. Noise would matter when firing weapons and night should provide stealthy cover. The two chatty peeps walk their way to a reinforced building that should be set up by a few opponent players. After some coordination, the duo pick off both players at once, then move in to also rid the perimeter of oncoming zombies. It should also be possible to reinforce buildings yourself, allegedly. There is also a ton of loot to be had from killing people. That last thing is a fact at least; we can see it happen.
