Sony and Naughty Dog have sure found a winner in the Uncharted series. The PlayStation 3 series has grown into one of Sony Computer Entertainment’s biggest sellers, with over 17 million copies sold in the last five years. The exclusive franchise has been cited as one of the PS3′s biggest assets, convincing gamers to pick up the console for its large range of exclusive titles.
The official sales figure, as released by Sony, is 17.3 million copies. When you consider that the series is exclusive to the PS3, that becomes a pretty impressive number. Add in the fact that there hasn’t been a great deal of advertising exposure for the series, particularly next to its competitors, and it becomes a remarkably successful game for the console.
To celebrate the success of the series, Sony is putting out a Game of the Year version of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. The GOTY edition of the game will include some bonus downloadable skins, extra multiplayer maps, and a co-op multiplayer mode. We’ll keep you up to date with pricing and other information as we learn more about the upcoming game.
