Kalypso Media announced a new game, simply called DARK. This third person stealth action game is what you get when you mix elements from the Deus Ex cyberpunk universe and throw in some Assassin’s Creed and Vampires.
The game developed by the creators of Dungeons will let the player take control of a vampire that needs to uncover the workings of baleful company GeoForge Corporation. Therefore, the dark protagonist will be able to make use of powerful vampiric traits, such as ‘turning into a puff of smoke’. It’s nice to see some 1920’s effects come back to the dark masquerade.
More so, players will advance through being proficient in combat and evasion, which make up the RPG elements of the game. It is said that the AI will consist of both human and supernatural foes that will shape the mixture of conflict in the game.
From the announcement screenshots we can see that the game should’ve been called ‘GREEN’ from the looks of it. It also displays the developers’ choice of going with cel-shaded visuals.
DARK will arrive in early 2013 for Xbox 360 and PC.
Yeah, they pretty much already made such a game in 2004 called Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, though without the cyberpunk vibe. I’ll keep hold of judgment until I’ve played this one, but VTM:B would be pretty hard to beat in terms of a dark world with impressive dialogue, exploration, vampiric feats, character development, and combat/stealth elements. Just looking at the screenshots though it seems to have borrowed heavily from VTM.
