Gamescom is filled with a good amount of announcements and developments this year. Sony had a good run and we also reported on Paradox Interactive’s sizable reveals. Warner Bros is also present and active with their release of a good amount of videos on their upcoming games.
First up, we have the remake of Spy Hunter. This classic racing game is remembered in the beginning of the trailer. The newer 3D rendition gets a serious boost, after almost 30 years of waiting. Models have become a bit more refined since then. Spy Hunter will take the superb car off the road and even into the water for some chases. Apparently, you’ll even be able to just crash through choppers. This game will release in fall of 2012 for Vita and 3DS.
Lord of the Rings Online receives a new developer diary, regarding their expansion of the Rohan territory. In it, the developers discuss the benefits of live action filming and the concerns of the heroes that wish to make a name for themselves. In an attempt to create more human and multidimensional characters, they also weigh out war and brotherhood, instead of just being a killing machine. Naturally, the whole is heavily reliant on the universe created by Tolkien.
More info on the lore comes from a short teaser for the Lego Lord of the Rings game. It depicts most of the important characters with that traditional Lego witty narration. The game will feature locales known from the universe and apparently offer giant battles against the Orcs, even if Lego battles are pointless. Additionally, Lego LOTR is the second game in the series to offer voice acting. Yet, the work done in the trailer seems off somehow. Anyway, the publisher stated that it will be possible to recreate favored scenes from the films. The game will release in fall of 2012.
We’re not quite done; Warner Bros is dedicated on milking the LOTR license with 2 trailers for Guardians of Middle-Earth. The first looks at the lady Galadriel and Ugluk. Leaving gender binaries intact, the female is the healer and Ugluk is a brutal male Uruk-Hai that can use attacks to close in for damage. The other video shows battle profiles of the fair Legolas and the Witch King. Naturally, the elf will use ranged attacks and combine that with movement to kite opponents. The servant of Sauron uses dark magic to control his environment, such as a necromancy spell. This multiplayer game is set for release alongside the new Hobbit film this fall.
We saved the best for last. Catwoman shows her deadly skills in the latest trailer for Injustice: Gods Among Us. The fighting game from the makers of Mortal Kombat bears a striking resemblance to their prior title. It seems to be a favored combination of the developer. Still, there are no gender roles in this clip. Catwoman is one fierce kitten that takes on any opponents. The publisher also announced that she will be available in the Wii U edition of Batman: Arkham City.
