Back in the glory days of PC gaming, Rise of the Triad was a top-tier first person shooter. Well, today this iconic game of 1995 has returned. Owner Apogee has announced a remake of the classic.
Apogee searched for a worthy developer to take on the role of this reborn shooter. They found one in Interceptor Entertainment, a mod team turned professional after its work on a Duke Nukem 3D fan remake caught a ton of media attention. They’ll now recreate Rise of the Triad with the Unreal Engine 3, to usher it into the modern era. The press release promises to cater to low-end PCs as well as powerful rigs, which is definitely a classy move.
Still, original sounds have been kept for that nostalgic feel, along with crazy weaponry. Gamers can look forward to blasting enemies with a Drunk Missile or Excalibat. The game offers a choice between 5 operatives of an organization called H.U.N.T. or High-Risk United Nations Taskforce. It will feature a full singleplayer experience of 20 levels, as well as multiplayer made to take advantage of the weird weapons. Some more strange tidbits areElasto Mode, Shrooms Mode or even Dog Mode. That along with a ton of hidden secrets and the ability to dismember anyone you meet, should provide some hours of entertainment.
A track from the original has been remade and launched through Soundcloud, which you can find here.
Additionally, a trailer shows you exactly why this game was originally planned as a Wolfenstein 3D sequel. You’ll also get to witness the explosive gameplay. Rise of the Triad will release late this year on Steam and allow for modding through Steamworks.
