WRC 3

A few weeks before release, developer Milestone has revealed some more information on WRC 3. The racing game will enhance its career mode with special challenges and even boss battles.

The challenges consist of a set of racing difficulties that must be overcome. In Drift Contest, players must stay within the lines near a corner to score points. Rally School Contest will require racers to stay within bounds with their car. The Crash & Run mode is similar to that shown in DiRT games, where the goal is to crash into objects laid out on the road. The Gate Contest mode is a bit confusing. It sets gates throughout a track and players must either crash through them or stay in between them. However, an indication of whether or not it’s a real or fake gate will only get prompted at the last moment, so reflexes will need to stay sharp here.

One of the more pressing game modes is Survival Contest, where the car will start falling apart and the only way to reach the finish line is by picking up repair kits and by driving very efficiently. Finally, Top Rally Contest will pit players against a special car. The Combo Contest mode allows for a combination of 2 or more of the aforementioned possibilities. A short gameplay video illustrates some of these points.

The Boss Battles in the game will test your racing skills with one of 7 possible ultimate drivers. Only by defeating these pros will players get access to the next race.

WRC 3 will release on October 12, 2012 for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, with a PS Vita version to follow. The game will create a new, in-house engine for this iteration. The new Road to Glory career mode will attempt to ease newcomers in, while the online mode and WRC Experience will put you in a professional driver seat.
